Behind the Book: A Conversation with Dr. Ravi Bhatia | Volume 3

Let’s Quiz Kid: Volume 3

Dr. Ravi Bhatia

Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Hi! I am Dr. Ravi Bhatia, a paediatrician by profession and a passionate quizzer at heart. My interest in quizzing began during my school days and has stayed with me ever since.

I often meet children and adolescents who have limited knowledge of India and its rich heritage. There is so much to discover about our country’s history, culture, people, and achievements. Through my quiz books, I hope to encourage them to learn more about our country in an interesting and enjoyable way.

What inspired you to write this book?

Let’s Quiz Kid: Volume 3 is a continuation of my passion for quizzing and sharing knowledge about India. I firmly believe that quizzes can be an interesting and enjoyable way to teach children and adolescents about India.

The encouraging response to my first two books, Let’s Quiz Kid: Volume 1 and Let’s Quiz Kid: Volume 2, motivated me to continue the series. I wanted to build on what I had already created while offering readers something different.

Please tell us about your book. What is it about, and who is it written for?

Let’s Quiz Kid: Volume 3 follows the familiar format of the earlier books, with 500 questions arranged into 50 quizzes of 10 questions each. All the questions focus on India.

However, there is a slight change in this volume. While the earlier books included more straightforward, fact-based questions, Volume 3 introduces a greater number of trivia-based questions. Some may appear lengthy at first, but they contain clues that can help readers work out the answers.

I have also included questions based on current affairs and interesting posts and tweets from social media. Since young people spend considerable time on these platforms, I thought it would be interesting to bring some of that content into the quizzing experience.

The book is primarily intended for children and adolescents, but anyone who enjoys quizzes and discovering interesting facts about India can give it a try.

What was the most enjoyable or the most challenging part of writing this book?

Interestingly, the most enjoyable part was also the most challenging: finding lesser-known information about India.

Believe me, writing this book involved a great deal of reading and research. I spent considerable time exploring different subjects, identifying interesting details, and turning them into questions. In the process, my own knowledge increased by leaps and bounds.

Another special part of this journey was the involvement of my two daughters, who are both passionate quizzers. They went through every question and gave their approval. Having them review the questions made the writing process even more enjoyable for me.

What do you hope readers will take away after reading your book?

I hope readers will discover many interesting and lesser-known facts about our country. India has so much to offer in terms of history, culture, achievements, and fascinating stories, and there is always something new to learn.

More than anything, I want young readers to enjoy the process of discovering these facts. If the questions encourage them to think, look for clues, and become more curious about India, I would consider the book a success.
