Conversation with a Yogi
Suman Mukherjee

Please introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Suman Mukherjee, a writer and a former corporate professional, where I worked for 20 years. I was born in a place called Chittaranjan, around 250 km from Kolkata and raised in Lucknow. I like to travel and have visited all the states of India. I have worked in Kanpur, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Singapore, Mumbai, and Pune for the same company. I am a foodie and like to interact with the locals whenever I visit any new place. I have always been an avid reader and read around 40 books a year, though my desire is to read at least 80 books annually. I have also been an observer of people and life in general. After spending many years outside of West Bengal, I returned to my roots in March 2026 and am now staying in the City of Joy. I am currently writing my eighth book. My first book was published in February 2016.
What inspired you to write this book?
Conversation with a Yogi was written in 2021 and published in 2022. Those were gloomy times due to COVID, and I thought to write about something spiritual. I write across genres. My books pertain to thrillers, political stories, love stories, horror, coming of age genre. The unhappy times triggered this book, which is based on a real event. I used to travel regularly from Delhi to Kanyakumari, and this book captures one such journey with a yogi.
Please tell us about your book. What is it about, and who is it written for?
As per the blurb,
“On a train journey from Delhi to Thiruvananthapuram, the author meets a Yogi and learns life’s greatest lessons from him. A routine trip suddenly turns into something unfamiliar yet extraordinary as the train traverses through the beautiful and picturesque Western Ghats of the Konkan Railway.
During the journey, the author realises that when the song of creation calls directly to our soul questing after truth, the journey itself becomes the source of happiness rather than the destination.
Conversation with a Yogi will help you to explore the various dimensions of your life and what it takes to be successful, blissful and ecstatic all at the same time.”
The book is written for anyone above the age of 10, for children, for adults, and for those who want to understand life and its complexities, unpredictabilities, and endless possibilities.
What was the most enjoyable or the most challenging part of writing this book?
I started writing the book around September 2021, and I was halfway through by December 2021. I was staying in Chandigarh at that time. I generally write at night, but for this book, I used to get up at 4:00 am, take a bath, and then start writing. It was very difficult to wake up in the biting cold of Chandigarh and then take a bath in cold water as Yogis do. I wanted to put myself in that spiritual zone before experiencing it through writing this book. This book healed me by the time I finished writing it.
What do you hope readers will take away after reading your book?
A lot of questions will be answered which pop up in our minds from time to time. After reading this book, the readers will come away with a little more peace, self-awareness, compassion, hope, purpose, a deeper understanding of themselves, and a different perspective on life.
